Dr. Timothy W. Sloan

Dr. Timothy W. Sloan is a visionary pastor and cultural architect shaping the conversation on leadership, faith, and social change. As Senior Pastor of The Luke Church in Humble, Texas, he has become known for blending intellectual depth with spiritual power. His ministry inspires leaders to think critically and act courageously in a rapidly changing world.

A native of Sherman, Texas, Dr. Sloan earned his Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. He pursued legal studies at Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and South Texas College of Law in Houston.
He later earned the Doctor of Ministry in Transformative Leadership from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York.

In May 2002, Dr. Sloan was called to serve as Senior Pastor of The Luke Church. Under his leadership,
The Luke has grown from 300 to over 8,000 members, expanded its property holdings, and constructed a new worship campus and life center. The Luke’s reach extends beyond its walls through strategic partnerships with organizations such as AARP, NFL Play 60, American Heart Association, and the NAACP, advancing health, education, and empowerment in local communities. Internationally, Dr. Sloan has led mission efforts in South Africa and Haiti, including the development of schools, churches, pastoral training, and building a medical clinic in Léogâne, Haiti, in partnership with New Missions.

During the global COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Sloan emerged as a trusted voice within the Black Church community. Selected by Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the United States, he participated in a nationally broadcast interview addressing vaccine hesitancy and the church’s response to the public health crisis. He appeared on several national news outlets as a faith leader helping guide churches through uncertain times.

Dr. Sloan is the author of Stand: Learning to Lead through Conflict, a transparent reflection on navigating organizational change and spiritual leadership, and Closer to You: A Devotional for Dads and Daughters,
co-authored with his daughter, Sarah Julia Sloan. He also hosts The Keep Standing Podcast, a leadership conversation featuring pastors, thinkers, and cultural influencers who model resilience, purpose, and faith in
the face of challenge. His sermons have been nationally and internationally broadcast and published,
extending his voice and witness into digital spaces and faith communities across the globe.

A social justice advocate and mentor to emerging leaders, Dr. Sloan has lectured at colleges, seminaries,
and conferences across the country, including Morehouse College, Princeton Theological Seminary, Payne Theological Seminary, IC3 Church Growth Conference, and the African American Preaching Conference at Baylor University’s Truett Seminary.
